Skylanders SWAP Force (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, WiiU, Wii, 3DS) is the third installment in what is easily the most popular new series since the first Call Of Duty came out in 2003. But what if, like me, you’ve never played a Skylanders game before, or only played one of the others ones briefly, and are intrigued by all the positive press?
As it turns out, you shouldn’t believe the hype. Well, okay, maybe a little.
Like previous games in the series, the upcoming Mario Party: Island Tour is made to be played with other party people. But as we learned when we got a chance to play the game during a recent media tour, this game also makes it easier to get other people to play as well.
While they’ve shown off a fair amount of it already, Nintendo had a couple new things to reveal about the upcoming platformer Super Mario 3D World when they gave press people some hands-on time with it during a recent media tour.
Beyond: Two Souls is an attempt by the French studio Quantic Dream to evolve video games beyond being just interactive versions of big dumb action movies, and into a true storytelling medium. Which is what they previously tried (and failed) to do with 2005’s Indigo Prophecy and 2010’s Heavy Rain. But while this PlayStation 3 exclusive, published by Sony, has some of the same flaws, those flaws aren’t fatal this time around, and if you’re willing to give yourself the time to get used to these shortcomings, you’ll be rewarded with a rather unique and engaging adventure.
At a recent press event in Los Angeles, 505 Games showed off Rekoil, an online-only, modern military first-person shooter for PCs and Xbox 360s that seems squarely aimed (no pun intended) at serious fans of the genre. But what makes it interesting is not what they’ve put into it, but what they’ve taken out.
Funko have announced that they will release new POP! Vinyl Action Figures of different Disney characters — including the stars of the movie Wreck-It Ralph — on October 10.
In a last ditch effort to get someone, anyone excited about Batman: Arkham Origins, the good people at Warner Brothers Interactive held a press day at their L.A. offices to show off a part of the game they hadn’t previously revealed at E3. Or at Comic-Con. Or at Gamescom. Or at any other point since they announced the game this past April.
Sega have announced that they are teaming with Tommo, Inc. on a line of Genesis-, Saturn-, Game Gear-, and Drreamcast-flavored accessories for mobile devices.
The collection will be launched in time for the holidays.
