Vintage Interview: Jeri Ryan of “Star Trek: Voyager” from 1998

In my career, I’ve interviewed a lot of interesting musicians and actors. But since many of the magazines and websites that originally published those stories aren’t around anymore, I’ve decided to pull some of the more interesting interviews out of my archive, starting with this one I did with Jeri Ryan, which I did in October of 1998, when she was in her second season as 7 Of 9 on Star Trek: Voyager and was married to her first husband. Parts of the interview were used in a profile piece I did on her for Bikini magazine.

DVD/BLU-RAY NEWS: Pacific Rim Announced

Warner Home Video have announced that Pacific Rim will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray on October 15.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro (Blade IIPan’s Labyrinth), and based on a script by del Toro and Travis Beacham, the sci-fi movie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons Of Anarchy) and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) as co-pilots of a giant mech who must fight similarly large monsters from another dimension. Which basically makes it Transformers vs. Godzilla.

GAME REVIEW: Killzone: Mercenary

In their continuing quest to show that the PlayStation Vita is a viable system for first-person shooters, Sony proudly presents Killzone: Mercenary, a sci-fi shooter from Guerrilla Cambridge (the studio formerly known as SCE Cambridge). But while fans of this long-running series will think this portable edition feels just like the home games, that same feeling will be an issue for those who’ve had problems with this series in the past.

TOY NEWS: Funko & Super7 Announce Parnership & Alien Toys

Toy makers Funko and Super7 have announced that they will collaborate on a series of toys dubbed ReAction Figures, which they’ll launch in late November with a series of retro-style Alien action figures.

Originally revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, these 3 ¾-inch tall Alien toys are supposedly based on designs for ones that were originally designed when the movie came out in 1979, but were never manufactured, and will even come in vintage-looking packaging.

The series includes the titular star, who has a removable transparent dome, a glow-in-the-dark head, and extendable jaws; Ripley and Dallas, both of whom come with flame throwers; Ash, who has the motion detector; and Kane, who’s in his space suit, which has a removable helmet.

All of the Alien figures will have 4 points of articulation. Or maybe 5. It’s hard to tell from the pictures if their heads move.

According to the press release, Alien figures are just the first of “several licenses to be announced soon.”

No pricing has been announced yet, and the figures aren’t yet available for preordering on Amazon, Funko’s website, or Super7’s, but we’d assume they’ll cost more in November of 2013 than they would’ve in November 1979.
