The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition Review

Like most PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (save for the improved Metro Redux and the augmented Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition), The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Special Edition (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC) doesn’t add anything new or significant enough to make it worth buying if you’ve already played the original version. But for those who missed it the first time, this is decidedly the definitive edition of this sprawling, engaging, and effortlessly fun fantasy adventure game.

“Titanfall 2” Review

As much fun as 2014’s multiplayer-centric Titanfall may have been, which is a lot, the lack of a single-player campaign was a rather glaring omission. But while Titanfall 2 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) thankfully corrects this error, and in spades, it does so without sacrificing the game’s established, and still solid multiplayer. Which is why this sequel ranks among the year’s best shooters and strongest overall games.

“Titanfall 2” Single-Player Mode Review

Like Star Wars Battlefront, Evolve, and Rainbow Six Siege, the original Titanfall was a multiplayer game that kind of had a campaign. While it had a story mode, it was really just a loosely connected string of multiplayer matches. But with Titanfall 2 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC), the good people at Respawn Entertainment have given this sci-fi shooter a real, no-foolin’, story-driven, single-player campaign. With this sequel not out yet, and thus the multiplayer servers not yet populated, here’s my assessment of the game’s campaign to tide you over until I’m able to shoot real people online.

“Battlefield 1” Single-Player Review

Since kicking it off with 2002’s Battlefield 1942, the Battlefield series has mostly been known for its online multiplayer modes. And while that’s still the case with the new Battlefield 1 (Xbox One, Xbox One Early Enlister Edition, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Early Enlister Edition, PC, PC Early Enlister Edition), the last three games in the series — 2011’s Battlefield 3, 2013’s Battlefield 4, and 2015’s Battlefield Hardline — have shown that this first-person shooter series can have compelling single-player campaigns as well. With that in mind, here’s an assessment of the single-player campaign in Battlefield 1.

Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour Review

If there’s been one constant about the steady stream of game reissues over the last few years, it’s that, with a handful of exceptions — Metro 2033 Redux and Gears Of War Ultimate Edition chief among them — most aren’t worth your money if you’ve already played the original. But now we can add Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary Edition World Tour (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC) to the list of good ones because it not only perfectly recreates the 1996 original, it adds a whole new section and other fun stuff as well.

“Gears Of War 4” Review

It’s a cliché, I know, but sometimes it’s true that the more things change, the more they stay the same. But while that happens to be the case with the sci-fi third-person Gears Of War 4 (Xbox OneUltimate Edition Xbox OnePCUltimate Edition PC), it’s actually the changes that make this otherwise familiar game feel refreshed and revitalized.

“Gears Of War 4: Single-Player Review

Since it began, the sci-fi, cover-based, third-person shooters in the Gears Of War series have been as much about their multiplayer and co-op modes as they are their story-driven campaigns. More so for some people. And the same is certainly true for the newest, Gears Of War 4 (Xbox One, Ultimate Edition Xbox One, PC, Ultimate Edition PC). But while we wait for the game to come out so I can test its online modes, here’s an assessment of the game’s story-driven campaign.
