Exclusive Interview: Sonic Mania PR Manager Edith Yang

In anticipation of Sonic Mania coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC on August 15th, Sonic’s publicist at Sega, Edith Yang, recently showed off the game while agreeing to be peppered with stupid questions about how what’s old and new in Sonic’s latest Sunday jog.

Wolfenstein II The New Colossus Hands-On Preview

At a recent event held at the Iam8Bit Gallery in Los Angeles, the good people from MachineGames and Bethesda Softworks gave game journalists a chance to play two levels from the upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter Wolfenstein II The New Colossus (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC), which will be released on October 27th. Here’s a recap of what happened when I took control of series hero William “B.J.” Blazkowicz.

Oh, and obviously, spoilers follow. You have been warned.

Nex Machina Review

For more than twenty years, the good people at Housemarque have made a career out of top-down, twin-stick shooters. But while they’ve constantly pushed this genre’s conventions, they’ve also kept many of them alive, as evidenced by how their latest gun game, Nex Machina (PlayStation 4, PC), is less like their most recent arcade shooters, and more like the classics that inspired them.

Arms Review

Nintendo is usually good about bringing its biggest franchises to every game system they make. But while you may have thought it was more a matter of when than if they’d make a new Punch-Out!! for the Switch, well, we’ve got good news and some bad news. The bad news is that it might not happen because the good news is they’ve kind of done with Arms (Switch), a cartoony, three-dimensional fighting game that’s decidedly Punch-Out!!-esque.

WipEout Omega Collection Review

Some things are inevitable. Death. Taxes. And me hoping that a new PlayStation will herald the return of WipEout, the futuristic racing series that helped launch the Sony’s first game console in 1995, but has appeared only sporadically on subsequent systems. Well, now it’s finally the new one’s turn with WipEout Omega Collection (PlayStation 4), which presents 2008’s WipEout HD, that game’s 2009 expansion WipEout Fury, and 2012’s WipEout 2048.

“Victor Vran: Overkill Edition” Review

Nearly two years after being released on PCs and Mac, the Diablo III-esque dungeon crawler Victor Vran has finally come to consoles as Victor Vran Overkill Edition (PlayStation 4, Xbox One), which also includes the game’s two major add-ons, an expanded edition that’s also available on PC. But while this adventure game is decidedly Diablo-esque, it manages to distinguish itself by employing some different, and fundamental, mechanics.

Shadow Warrior 2 Review

When the original Shadow Warrior came out in 1997, it was dismissed by some, and embraced by others, for being yet another Doom-like first-person shooter. A sentiment that was echoed when the remake was released in 2013. But while Shadow Warrior 2 (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC) is thankfully more of the same, it’s also unfortunately just more of the same.

Prey Review

With special powers, first-person gunplay, and a damaged art-deco setting, some have wondered if the sci-fi shooter Prey (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC) was going to be like BioShock in space. And in many ways, it is. But thanks to a lot of little things that collectively numbed my enthusiasm, this action game just never grabbed me as much as BioShock.
