“Pinball Arcade” Season Four Tables Review (So Far)

You can now read an updated version of this story that includes all of the season 4 tables. Just click here.

Since its release in 2012, FarSight Studio’s Pinball Arcade (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, iOS, Android, PC, Mac) has consistently added new recreations of classic pinball tables from the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and even the ’00s.

With new tables being added every month, I’ve decided (FarSight permitting) that I will review the new ones when I can, starting with the first five they’ve put out for Season Four.

Exclusive Interview: Block N Load Studio Head David Solari

Most game developers don’t like to admit that their games are like other games, even when they are. But David Solari, the VP and Studio Head of England’s Jagex Games Studio has no such compulsion when it comes to their upcoming PC game, Block N Load. “It’s basically a cross between Minecraft and Team Fortress 2, with a little League Of Legends sprinkled in there,” he admits, and without prompting. But in talking to him about the game while I watched him play a couple rounds, it became clear that while this does have elements of Minecraft, Team Fortress, and a little League Of Legends, there’s actually a lot more to it.

“Battlefield Hardline” Review

For as long as the series has been going, the Battlefield games have always done a better job with their multiplayer modes than its single-player ones. And I say that as someone who doesn’t play well with others. But by adding some intriguing (albeit not wholly original) mechanics to its campaign, while keeping its online modes mostly the same, Battlefield Hardline (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC) is fun whether you play it on your own or with friends.

Iron & Steel Pack (Wild West Rampage, CastleStorm) For Zen Pinball 2 & Pinball FX 2 Review

It’s been three long years since Zen Studios last onade an original table for Pinball FX2 (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC), Zen Pinball 2 (PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, WiiU, Mac), or Zen Pinball games (iOS, Android, Amazon Fire). But after playing the new “Wild West Rampage” table — one of two in the just-released “Iron & Steel” pack — it’s clear they haven’t lost their touch.

Evolve Solo Mode Review

In the sci-fi shooter Evolve (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC), four Hunters have to track and kill a Monster controlled by a fifth player. But while, as creative director Phil Robb put it, “Evolve is indeed a multiplayer experience at its core,” he also noted, “but it’s great fun solo as well.”

Exclusive Interview: Gunslugs II Mastermind Pascal Bestebroer

As someone who actually saw numerous R-rated ’80s action flicks on their opening weekends, it’s funny to now see them influencing video games that are enjoyed by people who not only weren’t old enough to see this movies in theaters back then, but neither were there parents. The latest of these is Gunslugs II, a side-scrolling shooter from Orangepixel that’s available for PCs, Mac, iOS, Android, and Ouya. Though in talking to Pascal Bestebroer, the one-man mastermind behind Orangepixel, it’s clear this game isn’t just a trip down memory lane.

Saints Row Gat Out Of Hell Review

Having already gone to space (in Saints Row: The Third: Gangstas In Space) and The Matrix (Saints Row IV), the Saints Row series is going to Hell, literally, with Saints Row Gat Out Of Hell. Available as a stand-alone game for PlayStation 4 (available digitally), PlayStation 3, Xbox One (also available digitally), Xbox 360, and PC, or in a bundle with Saints Row IV: Re-Elected, a new version of Saints Row IV for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this new adventure continues the mindless but magnificent mayhem this series has come to typify.

Worst Games Of 2014

While there were some great games in 2014, there were also a bunch that weren’t so great.

And then there was the following bunch of crap that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

Here now, in no particular order, are the worst games of 2014.
