“South Park Pinball” For “Pinball FX 2” & “Zen Pinball 2” Review

In 1999, when Sega built their South Park pinball table, it ended up being the last pinball table they would ever make. Let’s just hope that’s also not the fate of Zen Studios, who are bringing South Park Pinball — a two-fer with the tables South Park’s Super-Sweet Pinball and South Park: Butter’s Very Own Pinball Game — to Pinball FX2 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PCs via Steam; Zen Pinball 2 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, WiiU, and Mac; and Zen Pinball for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire.

Hyrule Warriors Review

Throughout the course of human history, seemingly incompatible elements have often come together to make something great. But for every Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup there’s Mary J. Blidge covering a Led Zeppelin song. And then there’s Hyrule Warriors, a new action game for the WiiU that falls somewhere in between by mixing aspects of The Legend Of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors games.

The Walking Dead Table For Pinball FX 2 & Zen Pinball 2 Review

The Walking Dead adventure game by Telltale is arguably one of the most engaging adventure games of the last few years. But what would’ve made that emotionally gripping game even better is if there had been a metal ball flying around the whole time, knocking into things.

Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark Review

For the last few years, Transformers fans have taken comfort in the knowledge that while the movies were terrible, the games were decent, sometimes even good. Sadly, this is not the case with Transformers: Rise Of The Dark Spark, a piss poor third-person shooter that Activision are releasing on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, WiiU, and PC.

Mario Kart 8 Review

For more than twenty years, the Mario Kart games have brought cartoony, arcade-style racing to Nintendo’s systems. But while Mario Kart 8 does a good job of continuing this tradition on the WiiU, it’s hard not to think that it could’ve been better.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Game Review

Twelve years ago, Spider-Man 2 rewrote the rules for comic book- and comic book movie-inspired games by having our friendly, neighborhood wall-crawler fight crime in wide-open New York City. Now Spidey again has the run of the place in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which Beenox has made for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and WiiU.

So why does it feel like both a step backwards and a step in the wrong direction?

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate: Deluxe Edition Review

Originally released on the 3DS and Vita, the side-scrolling beat-’em-up Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate was generally welcomed with a yawn when it came out alongside the vastly superior Batman: Arkham Origins last year. Now Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate: Deluxe Edition brings the game to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, WiiU, and PC, and with it, many of the same problems that plagued the original versions.

EXCLUSIVE REVIEW: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

For me, the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a reason to celebrate. No, not because it gives me a reason to turn on my WiiU for the first time in months. It’s because the original Donkey Kong Country has a special place in my heart. Besides being a really fun game, the inventive 1994 side-scrolling platformer was also the first game I ever got from a publisher to review, and doing so made me realize I could have a career as a video game reviewer, a career that continues, twenty years later.
