Destiny Review

Having all but defined the sci-fi first-person shooter genre with Halo, Bungie are now trying to redefine it with Destiny, which they call a “shared world shooter.” But while the game — which Activision has released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 — is far from perfect, especially if you’re not big on sharing, it does have some interesting new ideas, and is as engaging and fun as Bungie’s previous gun games.

Star Trek The Compendium Blu-ray Review

While the original Blu-ray of Star Trek Into Darkness had numerous special features, there were actually more that only appeared on special versions of the disc sold at Best Buy, Target, and other retailers. But while you can now get them all, and then some, on the new Blu-ray collection Star Trek The Compendium, which also includes the first Trek flick and its extras, it’s probably not worth the double dip unless you’re such a big Trekker that you don’t mind doubling up.

Robert Plant’s “lullaby And…The Ceaseless Roar” Review

In a recent interview, Robert Plant confessed that his newest album, lullaby And…The Ceaseless Roar (CD, digital, vinyl) may be his last one. Which is sad news, if true, especially since it would mean he’s going out with a whimper and not a bang.

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD: The Complete First Season Blu-ray And DVD Review

When it aired on ABC, the first season of Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD started off so slow that it almost lost a lot of people (myself included). But watching it again in rapid succession on the Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD: The Complete First Season Blu-ray and DVD — which means you get to the good post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier episodes a lot quicker — you realize that while this show isn’t as good as that movie or The Avengers, it’s still pretty entertaining.

Heavenly Sword Movie Review

One of the problems with such video game-inspired movies as Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life and the Resident Evil flicks is that they usually just pay lip service to the original games. But the CGI animated Heavenly Sword movie — based on the 2007 game of the same name, and being released on Blu-ray and DVD by Cinedigm — goes so far in the other direction that it ends up being little more than a curious artifact.

The Walking Dead Table For Pinball FX 2 & Zen Pinball 2 Review

The Walking Dead adventure game by Telltale is arguably one of the most engaging adventure games of the last few years. But what would’ve made that emotionally gripping game even better is if there had been a metal ball flying around the whole time, knocking into things.

The Walking Dead The Complete Fourth Season Blu-ray And DVD Review

I make no bones about the fact that the third season of The Walking Dead pissed me off. Watching two guys make stupid decisions because of their egos is not my idea of a good time. But while the aftermath of their idiocy continues for a while in The Walking Dead The Complete Fourth Season — which Anchor Bay are releasing on Blu-ray, DVD, and as a special limited edition Blu-ray — the second half goes in such a different direction that it’s renewed my hope for this show.

“CounterSpy” Review

Since 1962, nearly every spy movie, book, game, and comic has been influenced by the James Bond movies. And often for the better. Just consider CounterSpy, a smart, stylish, and ultimately supremely fun side-scrolling shooter for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita that’s like an interactive version of a Bond movie’s opening credits.

Metro Redux Review

In recent months, there’s been a number of next-gen remakes of previous gen games that only upgrade the graphics, add in the add-ons, and that’s basically it (I’m looking at you, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and The Last Of Us Remastered). But with Metro Redux, 4A games are bringing truly improved versions of their post-apocalyptic sci-fi shooters Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
