Exclusive Interview: “A City Dreaming” Author Daniel Polansky

While many fantasy novels take themselves seriously, occasionally you get a tale that’s not just of might and magic, but of mirth as well. Such is the case with A City Dreaming (hardcover, digital), a new urban fantasy novel from Daniel Polansky that’s not only been compared to the Harry Potter books and the Hellblazer comics, but also to the works of Kurt Vonnegut and the animated sitcom Archer. Though in talking to Polansky about the novel, it seems this tale was inspired by a certain city as well.

Exclusive Interview: The Dragon Lords: Fools Gold Author Jon Hollins

While such fantasy novels as The Lord Of The Rings and George R.R. Martin’s A Song Of Fire And Ice series take the genre seriously, there’s no reason you can’t have a little fun with your fantasy. Consider The Dragon Lords: Fools Gold (paperback, digital), the new novel by Jon Hollins (who’s also known as Jonathan Wood, the author of the “Hero” series: No Hero, Yesterday’s Hero, Anti-Hero, and Broken Hero). Though set in a realm of dungeons and dragons, the book is actually a lighthearted heist tale that reads like something the Monty Python guys might’ve written if they were trying to write a Holy Grail sequel after watching Oceans 11, 12, and 13.

Game Of Thrones The Complete Fifth Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

With the sixth season of Game Of Thrones set to premiere April 24th on HBO, it might be a good time to refresh your memory or get caught up by watching the previous season. And hey, how’s this for coincidence: the Game Of Thrones The Complete Fifth Season is now out on Blu-ray and DVD. Even cooler, this collection not only presents the show as it was meant to be seen, but it has a ton of great extras, especially if you get the Blu-ray.

The Hobbit The Battle Of The Five Armies Extended Edition Blu-ray, DVD Review

While people insist that size doesn’t matter, we all know it does. Just consider The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit movies, the extended versions of which have all been better than their shorter, theatrical counterparts. And that’s once again the case with The Hobbit The Battle Of The Five Armies Extended Edition, which is now available on Blu-ray, DVD, and 3D Blu-ray.

Exclusive Interview: The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing III Narrative Designer Viktor Juhasz & CCO Linda Bozoradi

While game developers usually start thinking about sequels after their games come out, and are successful, the good people at NeocoreGames actually conceived of The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing as a trilogy before the first game was released in 2012. With The Incredible Adventures Of Van Helsing III due out on PC at the end of May (and later on Mac and Xbox One), I spoke to narrative designer Viktor Juhasz and CCO Linda Bozoradi about this series, as well as what they’ve added, changed, and improved for this final chapter of the trilogy.

Exclusive Interview: Path Of Exile The Awakening Technical Director Jonathan Rogers

While it’s not unusual for games to add to their stories with DLC, when Path Of Exile The Awakening expands the action-RPG Path Of Exile in a few weeks, it won’t be like when some fantasy game just puts in a couple new dungeons and a dragon or two. No, the expansion will not only add new adventures, it adds other elements that will so fundamentally change this game that Jonathan Rogers, the technical director on Path Of Exile The Awakening, says they’ve decided to conducting a six to eight week long beta — which starts April 20th, but you can join here — to make sure everything works right.

The Hobbit The Battle Of The Five Armies Blu-ray & DVD review

With The Hobbit The Battle Of The Five Armies, director Peter Jackson has concluded his epic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic 1937 fantasy novel (and, most likely, the entire cinematic Middle-earth saga as well). But while the movie was a bit of a letdown in theaters, watching it again at home — be it on the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, the 3D Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, or DVD — oddly works much better.
