As a journalist (and I use that term loosely), I always use my skeptical eye when reading a press release that declares a book is one thing or the other. But in talking to Candace Beck Moesta about her debut fantasy novel Soul Shift, it seems the press release was spot on when it say the book is “Fantasy fiction for the anime enthusiast.”
Whenever you buy a movie on Blu-ray, the most important thing is, of course, the movie itself. The extras are just that: extra. But let’s be honest, we’ve all bought new editions of movie Blu-rays just because it has more extras than are on the version we already own. Which brings me to the Ghost In The Shell 25th Anniversary Edition, which Anchor Bay have released on Blu-ray. While the movie looks better, it has absolutely no extras, not even ones that were on previous Blu-ray editions.
What’s a fan to do?
Earlier this year, Viz Media announced that they’d gotten the rights to 2007’s Moribito: Guardian Of The Spirit, the excellent action anime from Production I.G. (Blood: The Last Vampire, Attack On Titan) and director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex). But while they’ve just rereleased the series on Blu-ray and DVD, this new version isn’t an improvement over the original editions.
FUNimation have announced what anime Blu-rays and DVDs they’ll be releasing this September, October, and November. Which brings good news for fans of Ghost In The Shell, Attack On Titan, Dragon Ball Z, and One Piece, among others.
Anchor Bay have announced that they will release a Ghost In The Shell 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray on September 30th.
