In my career, I’ve interviewed a lot of interesting people. But since many of the magazines and websites that originally published those stories aren’t around anymore, I’ve decided to pull some of the more interesting interviews out of my archive.
The following interview with South Park co-creator, co-writer, and voice actor Matt Stone was conducted in July of 1997, a few months before the show first aired on Comedy Central. The interview was used as the basis for a story for Bikini Magazine.
In 1999, when Sega built their South Park pinball table, it ended up being the last pinball table they would ever make. Let’s just hope that’s also not the fate of Zen Studios, who are bringing South Park Pinball — a two-fer with the tables South Park’s Super-Sweet Pinball and South Park: Butter’s Very Own Pinball Game — to Pinball FX2 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PCs via Steam; Zen Pinball 2 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, WiiU, and Mac; and Zen Pinball for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire.
Like The Simpsons, Futurama, and a lot of American cartoons that are made for adults, South Park hasn’t always had the best luck being translated into a video game. But with South Park: The Stick Of Truth — a turn-based role-playing game made by Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas) and published by Ubisoft on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC — we finally have a South Park game that’s as fun as it is funny.
In the South Park episode “Simpsons Already Did It,” Professor Chaos (y’know, Butters) keeps coming up with evil schemes, only to be told by his sidekick, General Disarray, that all of them have previously been done on The Simpsons.
Watching South Park: The Complete Sixteenth Season, though, it’s hard not to wish the people who put it together had watched some of The Simpsons DVDs and Blu-rays because, then maybe, they might do theirs like The Simpsons did it.
