Exclusive Interview: Embodied Co-Editors Wendy & Tyler Chin-Tanner

According to their website, the comic book company A Wave Blue World is, “…an independent publisher of high-quality graphic novels, anthologies, and art books, focusing on socially conscious storytelling and providing a platform for a multitude of creative voices.” But none of their books would seem to present this ideal better than Embodied: An Intersectional Feminist Comics Poetry Anthology (paperback, Kindle). In the following email interview with Wendy and Tyler Chin-Tanner, co-publishers of AWBW, and the co-editors of Embodied, they explain how this unique collection came together.

Exclusive Interview: “Giant Moth Perishes” Author Geoffrey Nutter

Despite what the title may suggest, Geoffrey Nutter’s new poetry collection, Giant Moth Perishes (hardcover, paperback), is not a long ode to Mothra or how she gave her life to save Godzilla (and us) from Monster Zero. Though as he admits in the following email interview — in which he discusses what influenced these poems — he won’t be offended if you think it is.

Exclusive Interview: “I”: New And Selected Poems Author Toi Derricotte

As someone who (stupidly) only recently discovered poet Toi Derricotte, and is scrambling to get caught up on her oeuvre, the recent release of her anthology “I”: New And Selected Poems is fortuitous timing. With the paperback edition newly available, and the hardcover and Kindle editions still readily available, I engaged Derricotte in the following email interview to find out how this collection came together and why she decided now was the time to assemble it.

Exclusive Interview: Come-Hither Honeycomb Author Erin Belieu

Usually the acknowledgements in a book of poetry are where the author mentions where the poems were previously published. But in her newest poetry collection, Come-Hither Honeycomb (paperback), writer Erin Belieu includes a note of thanks for, “Debbie Gary, whose generosity (and airplane hangar) allowed me the space to finish this book.” To find out why — and, well, more important things like what inspired and influenced these poems — please enjoy the following email interview.

Exclusive Interview: “Dunce” Author Mary Ruefle

For some poets, seeing a poem in print — be it in a book or journal or online — means that’s it, it’s done, and can never be rewritten or revised again (save for typos). But in the following snail mail interview with poet Mary Ruefle about the paperback version of her poetry collection Dunce, she not only scoffs at having such a self-imposed rule, she admits she changed something in this new version of Dunce.

Exclusive Interview: “Like Bismuth When I Enter: Poems” Author Carlos Lara

Some poets over-think things. They look for a theme where none exists, or decide to center a collection of their work around a theme whether it needs it or not. But poet Carlos Lara has no need for your…themes. In the following email interview about his new collection, Like Bismuth When I Enter (paperback), he explains why this book has no intentional theme…and why that was intentional.

Exclusive Interview: Ask Me About The Future: Poems Author Rebecca Jessen

At any other time, Rebecca Jessen calling her new poetry collection Ask Me About The Future (paperback, ebook) would have very different connotations. So it’s important, as you read the following email interview with her about it, that you keep in mind that like Rome, poetry collections aren’t written in a day, and that day wasn’t yesterday, last week, or even last month.
