Exclusive Interview: “Call Of Duty Ghosts” Writer Stephen Gaghan

For Call Of Duty Ghosts (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, WiiU, PC), Activision hired writer/director Stephen Gaghan — who penned Steven Soderbergh’s 2000 movie Traffic and both wrote and directed 2005’s Syriana — to help with the campaign’s story. With the game done and out the door, I spoke to Mr. Gaghan about how he got the gig, how he feels about the way stories are told in games, and how he feels about the game’s critically-maligned ending. As a result…

Exclusive Interview: Fiendish Schemes Author K.W. Jeter

With his 1987s novel Infernal Devices, writer K.W. Jeter presented a unique and (ultimately) influential work of steampunk fiction. Now — after twenty-five years and as many other books — hes following it up with Fiendish Schemes (Tor Books), a sequel of sorts that catches us up with the original books main character, George Dower.

Exclusive Interview: PlayStation 4 Developers On Their Favorite PS4 Games

The PlayStation 4 features games from some of the best developers working today. But these people don’t just make games, they play them as well. Which is why, at the PlayStation 4 review event that Sony held at New York City’s Standard Highline Hotel, I asked many of the developers in attendance the same question:

What PlayStation 4 launch or launch window game are you most looking forward to?

Exclusive Iinterview: “Call Of Duty Ghosts” Executive Producer Mark Rubin

In many ways, Call Of Duty: Ghost — which Activision is releasing on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, WiiU, and PC — isn’t just a new game, it’s also a new beginning, as it’s the first non-sequel in this series  since 2008’s World At War.

It was with this in mind that I spoke to Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin, the game’s Executive Producer, at a recent event where journalists were given an opportunity to play the game so we could review it for our respective outlets (look for mine in an upcoming issue of @gamer). As a result…

Vintage Interview: nine inch nails’ Trent Reznor from 2000

In my career, I’ve interviewed a lot of interesting musicians and actors. But since many of the magazines and websites that originally published those stories aren’t around anymore, I’ve decided to pull some of the more interesting interviews out of my archive.

The following interview with nine inch nails’ Trent Reznor was conducted in March of 2000, at his studio in New Orleans, and was used as the basis for stories in the video game magazines Incite Video Gaming and Incite PC Gaming, as well as their website, incitegames.com.

Exclusive Interview: Ex-“Call Of Duty” / Current “Battlefield” 4 Writer Jesse Stern

Considering how competition is such a big part of video games, it’s hardly surprising that there are rivalries between different games as well. But few rivalries are as feisty as the one between Battlefield and Call of Duty.

Unless, of course, you’re writer Jesse Stern, who co-wrote 2007’s Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 but most recently worked on Battlefield 4.

But while some might see this as a betrayal, or as revenge — especially since he’s also helping the ex-C.O.D. people at Respawn with their upcoming game, Titanfall — Stern actually doesn’t see it that way.

Exclusive Interview: Skylanders SWAP Force & Beyond: Two Souls Composer Lorne Balfe

You’d have a hard time finding two games with as little in common as Skylanders SWAP Force and Beyond: Two Souls. Unless you pay attention to their music, since both feature the musical stylings of composer Lorne Balfe, who’s previously worked on 2009’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, 2011’s Crysis 2, and, last year, both Assassin’s Creed III and Skylanders: Giants. And yet, when it comes to Skylanders SWAP Force and Beyond: Two Souls, Balfe also thinks they have little in common, which is how he likes it.

Exclusive Interview: NCIS star Pauley Perrette, Part 2

In the second part of my interview with Pauley Perrette — the first half of which can be read here — we talk about how she spends her summer vacations, the documentary she’s making, her bakery, and why, though she’s now BFFs with George Lucas, she won’t be in the new Star Wars movie.
