2014 was a really good year for movies. And by “really good” I mean that there were more than two that were good enough for me to want on Blu-ray so I could watch them more than once.

Since the beginning, Archer has always been an animated workplace comedy about a bunch of screw-ups…who happen to be spies. It’s kind of like Space Ghost: Coast To Coast meets Get Smart. But in the episodes collected in Archer The Complete Season Five Blu-ray and DVD, the writers turned this hilarious spy spoof on its head by having Archer and his coworkers become drug smugglers.
After the annoying goofball that was Matt Smith, the BBC could’ve hired almost anyone to play the titular character on Doctor Who and it would’ve been an improvement. But as you’ll see from watching the dozen episodes and the extras included on the Doctor Who The Complete Eighth Series Blu-ray and DVD, they didn’t just pick anyone, they picked someone whose portrayal of the good Doctor harkens back to this show’s golden years.
Released in 1981, Time Bandits is one of writer/director Terry Gilliam’s most inventive and fantastical movies…which says a lot when you consider he also made 1985’s Brazil and 1995’s 12 Monkeys. Now this thirty-three year-old classic is getting the Blu-ray it deserves, courtesy of the good people at Criterion.
Warner Home Video have announced that the next DC Comics animated movie, Justice League Throne Of Atlantis, will be released as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, on DVD, and digitally on January 27th, 2015, and have detailed the extras included in the physical editions.
Studio Ghibli and Disney Home Entertainment have announced that three of the former studio’s movies — Porco Rosso, Pom Poko, and Tales From Earthsea — will be released on Blu-ray on February 3rd, 2015.
Universal Home Video have announced that Lucy — the action flick directed by Luc Besson (The Professional) that starred Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) — will be released on Digital HD on January 20th, and then as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and on DVD on January 20th.
