1982’s Liquid Sky is one of those odd ’80s cult movies that not many remember, even fewer remember fondly, but is reveried among those who do. But it is for those latter people that the new Liquid Sky Blu-ray/DVD combo pack is made, as it not only presents the film with better picture and sound than any previous home version, but also has almost every extra you’d want, including some new ones.

Though it had flaws which kept it from being DC’s answer to Marvel’s Avengers, the super hero team-up movie Justice League did end up being a halfway decent superhero action flick. Not surprisingly, the home version — which is available as a Blu-ray, DVD, digital combo pack; a 3D Blu-ray, DVD, digital combo pack; a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, digital combo pack; and on DVD — also ends up being fun but flawed. Or maybe that should be flawed but fun.
While it was far from perfect, Thor: Ragnarok was still an exciting and unapologetically fun action movie.
Not surprisingly, you can say the same about the home versions — the Blu-ray, DVD, Digital combo pack; the 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, Digital combo pack; and the DVD — which have a lot of fun extras…but should’ve been better.
Since its release in 1982, fans of the iconic and influential cyberpunk movie Blade Runner have been wondering what happened after Deckard drove off with Rachael. Now some of those questions have been answered, and in grand style, in one of 2017’s smartest and best movies, Blade Runner 2049, which is now available in a Blu-ray, DVD, digital combo pack, a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray combo pack, and on DVD. It’s just too bad the home versions, especially the DVD, leave some important questions unanswered as well.
As Game Of Thrones has shown so beautifully, it’s entirely possible to adapt a sprawling novel (or series of novels, as the case may be) into an equally impressive television show. The same can now also be said of Neil Gaiman’s 2001 fantasy novel American Gods. Though what’s great about the American Gods Season One Blu-ray and DVD is how its extras are almost as much about the original book as they are about the show.
One month after releasing the first Batman: The Animated Series movie, Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, on Blu-ray, Warner Brothers are following it up with the latest spin-off from that ‘toon, Batman And Harley Quinn, which is available on Blu-ray/DVD/digital combo pack; 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray/digital combo pack, DVD, and in a limited edition gift set that pairs the Blu-ray/DVD/digital combo pack with a 4″-tall Harley Quinn toy. But while Batman And Harley Quinn may not be as good as Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, or as strongly connected and aligned with Batman: The Animated Series, it’s still a worthy addition to any Bat-fans collection.
We all know that box office receipts are not a good way to determine if a movie is good or bad. The problem is that if a movie does badly at the box office, the studio making the film’s Blu-rays and DVDs will skimp on the extras. Which, sadly, is the case with Ghost In The Shell (Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, 3D Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, 4K Ultra HD, DVD), the cyberpunk action flick that has its fans — myself included — but not enough box office clout to warrant the extras-packed discs its fans want.
In 1962, two of the biggest movie stars in the world went mano-a-mano in the classic monster movie King Kong Vs. Godzilla. With shared universes all the rage these days (thanks Avengers), the people behind 2014’s Godzilla have taken the next step to reuniting these two titans with Kong Skull Island (Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, a 3D Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack, a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, DVD), the second film in the MonsterVerse series that will also include 2019’s Godzilla: King Of Monsters before 2020’s rematch, Godzilla Vs. King Kong. It’s just too bad Kong: Skull Island is less like the epic Iron Man and more like the just-okay Ant-Man.
With tons of shooting, explosions, and people running after their shooting causes something to explode, the TV show The Last Ship has always felt like a really long action movie that’s been broken into smaller parts. Which is just one of the reasons why the best way to watch the latest episodes of this gripping action show is on the The Last Ship The Complete Third Season, which is out now on Blu-ray and DVD.
