Marvel Comics have announced that they’ll release Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus — a collection of the original Star Wars comic books published by Marvel in 1977 — this January.
Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus will include Star Wars issues 1-44 and Star Wars Annual #1, which were written by
Roy Thomas, Howard Chaykin, Archie Goodwin, Jo Duffy, and Chris Claremont, and drawn by Chaykin, Carmine Infantino, Walter Simonson, Herb Trimpe, Michael Golden, Al Williamson, and Mike Vosburg.
In the press release announcing their publication, Marvel Editor In Chief, Axel Alonso, said, “With Star Wars poised to return to its comic book home, what better time to revisit the first adventures of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and, of course, Darth Vader? I am extremely proud to present these original Star Wars stories, told as only Marvel can, in the first in a massive and glorious Omnibus series.”
This, of course, is not the first time these comics have been omnibused (if that’s a word). In 2010, Dark Horse Comics collected issues these issues in Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…Volume 1 and Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…Volume 2, and eventually collected the remaining run in Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…Volume 3, Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…Volume 4, and Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago…Volume 5.
