TV NEWS: Samurai Flamenco Acquired By Aniplex Of America

Aniplex Of America have announced that they’ve secured the rights to the anime Samurai Flamenco.

Starting in October, Aniplex will stream each new episode just hours after it airs in Japan.

Samurai Flamenco

In the show, Masayoshi Hazama becomes a superhero even though he doesn’t have any super powers. Hidenori Goto is a police officer who learns Hazama’s true identity by “a strange twist of fate.” When Goto decides not to expose Hazama, it not only leads the cop to some problematic situations but, according to the press release, “a touch of comedy and serious drama, while they come face to face with hardships as they search for the true meaning of becoming a hero of justice in this world.”

Samurai Flamenco is being produced by Manglobe, the studio behind such animes as Samuari Champloo and Ergo Proxy — both of which rank among my favorite animus — and will be directed by Takahiro Omori (Durarara!!). Hideyuki Kirata (R.O.D. –The TV-) will serve as Chief Screenplay (which, I assume means head writer or script supervisor or something), while Chinatsu Kurahana (Uta no Prince-Sama) will handle the character designs.

Aniplex Of America have also said that Samurai Flamenco will be released “on disc” but that “Details about the physical release will be announced at a later date.”
