Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that The Raid 2 — the sequel to the 2011 action flick The Raid: Redemption — will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and through digital download services on July 8th.
Written and directed, like the first one, by Gareth Huw Evans (V/H/S/2), The Raid 2 finds the first film’s hero, Rama (Iko Uwais), “forced to reinvent himself as an undercover cop in order to provide protection for his wife and child. Working for the anti-corruption taskforce led by the one person he can trust, Bunawar (Cok Simbara), he is given a mission to engage himself as an enforcer for a local mob boss, Bangun (Tio Pakusodewo). Finding a way in through Bangun’s son Uco (Arifin Putra), Rama must hunt for information linking Bangun with police force corruption. All the while, he harbors a dangerous and personal vendetta for revenge and justice that threatens to consume him, and bring both this mission and the organized crime syndicates crashing down.”
Along with presenting the movie with both its original Indonesia audio track and an English dub, both the DVD and Blu-ray of The Raid 2 will include a commentary by Evans, a self-explanatory making-of featurette called “The Next Chapter: Shooting A Sequel,” and a Q&A with Evans, Uwais, and composer Joe Trapanes.
In addition, the Blu-ray will add a deleted scene and two more a self-explanatory making-of featurettes: “Ready For A Fight” and “Violent Ballet: Behind The Choreography.”
The Raid 2 is currently available for pre-ordering from Amazon, with the DVD listed for $27.89 and the Blu-ray for $32.39.
