Dark Sky Films have announced that they will release The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary on Blu-ray, DVD, and a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, and as a Black Maria limited edition Blu-ray boxed set on September 16th.
Originally released in 1974, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of the most influential horror movies of all time, and has spawned numerous sequels, prequels, remakes, parodies, and probably even the bad idea of making a cookbook.
The movie has been given an all-new 4K digital transfer, as well as a newly-created 7.1 surround sound mix that was supervised by the movie’s writer/director, Tobe Hooper.
As for the different editions, the regular Blu-ray and DVD editions of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary will both include four different commentaries: one with Hooper, actor Gunnar Hansen, and cinematographer Daniel Pearl; a second with actors Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, and Paul A. Partain, as well as production designer Robert Burns; a new one by Hooper; and a second new one by cinematographer Daniel Pearl, editor J. Larry Carroll, and sound recordist Ted Nicolaou.
As for the The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, it will include the above commentaries, but will add a bonus disc that contains the following:

Finally, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Black Maria Limited Edition Boxed Set Blu-ray will include replica of Leatherface’s apron and a theatrical mini poster, and will come in a replica of the cattle truck that saves Sally at the end.
However, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary Black Maria Limited Edition Boxed Set Blu-ray will only be available at Gorgon Video’s website for 30 days.
As for the other versions of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: 40th Anniversary, they are currently available for pre-ordering from Amazon, with the DVD listed for $23.23, the Blu-ray for $25.48, and the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for $22.99.
