Exclusive Interview: “Last To Leave The Room” Author Caitlin Starling

Genre can be a tricky thing, and never let it be said I don’t listen to an author when they tell me a book is one genre or another. Or a couple genres at the same time.

Which brings me to author Caitlin Starling, who, in the following email interview about her horror novel Last To Leave The Room — which is now available in paperback a year after originally being released in hardcover, Kindle, and audiobook — explains that while it has a scientist who may be sinking a city, and there’s an “impossible locked door,” and has some sci-fi flavor, Starling says, “it’s straight up horror to me.”

Exclusive Interview: “The Death Of Jane Lawrence” Author Caitlin Starling

A lot can be said about secretive, controlling men — none of it good. Well, one of it good: it can inspire authors to write something interesting.

Which brings me to writer Caitlin Starling and her new Gothic horror tale about a secretive, controlling man: The Death Of Jane Lawrence (hardcover, Kindle, audiobook).

In the following email interview, Starling discusses what inspired and influenced this scary story. But don’t worry, it’s not bad.

Exclusive Interview: “Vampire: The Masquerade: Walk Among Us” Authors Genevieve Gornichec, Cassandra Khaw, And Caitlin Starling

Since its initial release in 1991, the tabletop role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade has expanded to encompass video games, collectible card games, even a short-lived TV series, Kindred: The Embraced.

But their latest expansion is a literary one. In Vampire: The Masquerade: Walk Among Us (paperback, Kindle, audiobook) writers Genevieve Gornichec, Cassandra Khaw, and Caitlin Starling each put their own unique spin on the game’s Gothic horror world.

Though as they explain in the following email interview, you don’t need to be a Vampire: The Masquerade player to enjoy them (or have written them, as the case may be).

Having already given us a scary sci-fi story in her novel The Luminous Dead, writer Caitlin Starling is going in an absolutely, completely different direction with her scary Gothic tragedy novella Yellow Jessamine (paperback, Kindle, audiobook).

In the following email interview about it, she not only discusses what inspired and influenced this dark tale, but she also discusses her recently released audio-first novella Land Of Milk And Honey, which is part of the Vampire: The Masquerade: Walk Among Us collection, and her upcoming second novel, tentatively titled The Death Of Jane Lawrence.

Exclusive Interview: “The Luminous Dead” Author Caitlin Starling

In the following email interview about her new sci-fi horror novel The Luminous Dead (paperback, Kindle), writer Caitlin Starling cites a handful of other books as well as video games that had a big influence on her story.

But she also talks about one movie that may have been an influence as well, a movie she oddly hadn’t seen.
