Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that The Monuments Men will be released on DVD, in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, and digitally on May 20th.
Loosely based on the history book The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, And The Greatest Treasure Hunt In History by Robert M. Edsel, and set during World War II, The Monuments Men follows a group of museum curators and art historians — played by George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, and Bob Balaban — who are on a mission to stop the Nazis from stealing, and often destroying, great works of art.
The film was directed by Clooney, who co-wrote the screenplay and co-produced the film.
Along with the movie, both the DVD and DVD/Blu-ray combo pack versions of The Monuments Men will include the featurettes “Marshalling The Cast,” in which the cast talk about their real-life counterparts, and “George Clooney’s Mission,” about the making of the movie.
In addition, the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack will also include deleted scenes, and two featurettes: “A Woman Amongst The Monuments Men,” which has actress Cate Blanchett talking about the museum curator she plays in the movie, and a look at the real men who carried out this mission called “The Real Monuments Men,” which includes an interview with one of the last surviving members of the group, Harry Ettlinger.
The Monuments Men is currently available for pre-ordering from Amazon, with the DVD listed for $27.89 and the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack listed for $36.89. Prices for the digital versions will, of course, depend on where you buy or stream it from.
While you wait, you can enjoy the movie’s trailer.
