Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced that Helix: The Complete First Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on July 1st.
Created by Cameron Porsandeh, and executive produced by Battlestar Galactica mastermind Ronald D. Moore, Helix follows a group of scientists from the Center For Disease Control when they go to a remote research facility, only to find that the disease they’re trying to stop from spreading isn’t their only problem.
Along with the SyFy Channel show’s thirteen episodes, both the DVD and Blu-ray of Helix: The Complete First Season will include deleted scenes, outtakes, a commentary on the pilot by star Billy Campbell and Porsandeh, a commentary on the episode “Dans L’Ombre” by Campbell and executive producer Stevn Maeda, and four making-of featurettes called “Ronald D. Moore: The Outlier Of Science Fiction,” which talks to Moore about the creation of the show; “The Future Of Disease,” a look at the medical aspects of the show; “The Art Of Isolation,” which examines the research center on the show; and the self-explanatory “Dissection The Characters.”
In addition, the Blu-ray will include two other making-of featurettes: “Writing The Tension,” which looks at the writing the show; and “Fabricating The Plague,” about the special effects when it came to the disease and how it would infect people.
Both versions of Helix: The Complete First Season are currently available for pre-ordering from Amazon, with the DVD listed for $50.39 and the Blu-ray for $59.39.
