DVD/BLU-RAY NEWS: Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher Announced

Sony Home Video have announced that they will release a new Marvel Comics animated movie called Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher on DVD, in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, and digitally on March 25th.

Avengers Confidential

“After interfering with a top secret mission,” the press release says, “The Punisher is taken into custody by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and Avenger, Black Widow. At the orders of Director Nick Fury, Punisher and Black Widow are sent on a mission to stop Leviathan, a global terrorist organization that plans to sell stolen S.H.I.E.L.D. technology to the highest bidder. Now, the vigilante and spy must work together to prevent this technology from falling into the wrong hands. The fate of the world, and of the Avengers, hangs in the balance.”

Made by Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan) Inc. and Madhouse Inc. (PaprikaMillennium Actress), Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher is directed by Kenichi Shimizu, with a story by Marjorie Liu and screenplay by Mitsutaka Hirota, and features the voices of Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter as Black Widow and Brian Bloom from Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as The Punisher.

Along with the 83-minute-long movie, both the DVD and the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack will include “Espionage And Punishment,” a featurette that, “looks at the exciting versions of these popular Marvel characters as adapted in this stunning style of anime.  From early concept art and storyboards to the final film, all aspects of creating the compelling story of this unique anime feature are explored,” as well as a second featurette called “The Vigilante Vs. The Spy,” which is described as being, “a look at Frank Castle (The Punisher) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow).  Each of these characters feature dark and complex origins that led them to extreme action and extraordinary lives.”

In addition, the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack will also include a conceptual art gallery.

While neither version is currently available for pre-ordering from Amazon (though that may have changed since I first posted this story), Barnes & Noble.com have the DVD listed for $19.99 and the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack for $26.99.
