Star Trek: Discovery: Season Two Blu-ray, DVD Review

As some people who’ve purchased video games and eBooks have discovered the hard way, digital is not necessarily forever. Or available if your Internet goes out (which is sadly more of a problem than you might expect). Which is why I applaud the good people at Paramount Home Video and CBS Home Entertainment who’ve seen fit to release seasonal sets for the premiere show of CBS Access, Star Trek: Discovery, the latest of which, Star Trek: Discovery: Season Two, is now out on Blu-ray and DVD.

South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

One of the interesting things about South Park is how they’ve had running gags and call backs, but don’t go back to a subject once they’ve taken it on. But having been around for more than two decades, some of those subjects have evolved, or just not gone away. And so it is that in some of the episodes presented in South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season Blu-ray and DVD, they not only tackle new cultural issues but some old though still relevant ones as well.

Exclusive Interview: “Star Trek: The Next Generation: Available Light” Author Dayton Ward

While the Star Trek novels have always adhered to the canon created by the TV shows and movies, they’re not canonical themselves. But they do, ironically, have their own canon, complete with their own ongoing storylines. In the following email interview about his new Trek tale, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Available Light (paperback, Kindle), science fiction writer Dayton Ward not only discusses the inspirations and influences on his sci-fi space opera story, but also how it serves to connects David Mack’s Star Trek: Section 31: Control and Mack’s upcoming Star Trek story, Star Trek: The Next Generation: Collateral Damage (due out October 8).

Archer: Danger Island: The Complete Season Nine DVD Review

Much like episodes of the animated show they collect, the recent seasonal sets for Archerare not as good as the earlier ones. But if, like me, you continue to be a fan of this weird and wild show, you’ll still enjoy the DVD version of Archer: Danger Island: The Complete Season Nine.

Exclusive Interview: Star Trek: Discovery: The Way To The Stars Author Una McCormack

For years, writers have expanded upon the Star Trek universe with non-canonical adventures in novel form. But in Star Trek: Discovery: The Way To The Stars (paperback, Kindle), veteran Star Trek author Una McCormack takes a somewhat different approach than what she and others have done in the Trek-verse by writing a prequel about Discovery crew member Sylvia Tilly before she became the cadet we know from the show.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season One Blu-ray, DVD Review

In theory, one of the upsides of a TV streaming service is that your favorite shows are always available. In practice, however, that hasn’t always been the case. For that, you still need a physical release, something a lot of shows made for streaming services don’t get. But fans of Star Trek: Discovery are in luck as Paramount and CBS Home Entertainment have released Star Trek: Discovery: Season One (Blu-ray, DVD), which not only includes all fifteen episodes, but the kind of extras that fans of this sci-fi space opera will appreciate.

Ash Vs. Evil Dead: The Complete Collection Blu-ray, DVD Review

Like many TV shows having their entire series collected on home video, the discs included in the Ash Vs. Evil Dead: The Complete Collection Blu-ray and DVD are just the discs from the Ash Vs. Evil Dead: The Complete First Season, Complete Second Season, and Complete Third Season collections in a single package. Which, on one hand, is great, since it means that fans who own the seasonal sets won’t have to buy this as well. But it’s also a bummer because the seasonal sets were missing a few key extras that, had they been added to this collected edition, would’ve actually made it, well, complete.
