Freddy and Jason are teaming up again, but no, not in another movie.
NECA have announced that they’ll release a pair of retro-style action figures for Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare On Elm Street movies and Jason Voorhees from the Friday The 13th flicks.
Both the Freddy and Jason figures will be 8-inches tall, and will have clothing that’s actually made of fabric, just like similar toys were back in the 1970s.
Diamond Select Toys will be releasing the first series of Tomb Raider Minimates next week and, in honor of this, they’ve issued new pictures of what I can only assume is them vacationing on some tropical island.
There will be 12 figures in all, with different sets of two available in different stores.
One collection, which pairs Roth…
with Storm Guard General…
will be only available only online, at comic book stores, or at specialty toy shops, as will the two-fer of Sun Queen…
and Father Mattias (who apparently missed the vacay).
Similarly, the pack with the Scavenger (who also missed this trip) and the and Scavenger Archer…
will only be sold at Toys “R” Us, as will the one with Storm Guard (also not pictured) and Storm Guard Stalker.
Meanwhile, the collections with Lara…
and Scavenger Scout…
will available everywhere, as will the pairing of Battle Damaged Lara Croft and Armored Scavenger. Who are seen here reenacting a scene from Othello.
Regardless of where you buy them, all of the Tomb Raider Minimates will retail for $9.99 each.
Toy makers Funko and Super7 have announced that they will collaborate on a series of toys dubbed ReAction Figures, which they’ll launch in late November with a series of retro-style Alien action figures.
Originally revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, these 3 ¾-inch tall Alien toys are supposedly based on designs for ones that were originally designed when the movie came out in 1979, but were never manufactured, and will even come in vintage-looking packaging.
The series includes the titular star, who has a removable transparent dome, a glow-in-the-dark head, and extendable jaws; Ripley and Dallas, both of whom come with flame throwers; Ash, who has the motion detector; and Kane, who’s in his space suit, which has a removable helmet.
All of the Alien figures will have 4 points of articulation. Or maybe 5. It’s hard to tell from the pictures if their heads move.
According to the press release, Alien figures are just the first of “several licenses to be announced soon.”
No pricing has been announced yet, and the figures aren’t yet available for preordering on Amazon, Funko’s website, or Super7’s, but we’d assume they’ll cost more in November of 2013 than they would’ve in November 1979.
Image Comics have announced that they will release a trade paperback collection of Ryan Browne’s webcomic God Hates Astronauts on October 9.
In God Hates Astronauts, the announcement explains, “NASA hires the Power Persons 5 to keep the nation’s farmers from launching themselves into space in homemade rocket ships. The bad news is that NASA is wasting their money, because this gang of hooligans is going to hang out, get drunk, have extra-marital affairs, and occasionally save the day in spite of themselves.”
God Hates Astronauts: Volume I will not only include the original webcomic, but also a hundred pages of “rare and all-new material not available on the web.”
This, the release says, will include “18 all-new two-page origin stories written by Browne and drawn by some of the best talent in comics, including Tradd Moore, Tim Seeley, Riley Rossmo, Tom Scioli, Nick Pitarra, C.P. Wilson III, Zander Cannon, Jenny Frison, Chris Mitten, and Hilary Barta,” as well as more than 20 pin-ups from such artists as Rebekah Isaacs, Mike Norton, Chris Burnham, and Tom Fowler, and “a reference guide that explains the parodies and inside jokes.”
God Hates Astronauts: Volume I is currently available for preorder from Amazon for $13.49.
Shout! Factory have announced that Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising will be released on DVD and in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack on October 8.
Shout! Factory have announced that Marvel Knights Animation: Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk — a motion comic adaptation of the comic series by Lost co-creator and Star Trek movie writer Damon Lindelof, and drawn by Secret Invasion artist Leinil Francis Yu — will be released on DVD on September 10.
In Ultimate Wolverine Vs. Hulk, the not-so-jolly green giant is presumed dead, but S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury knows better. When stories of a big green man being to surface, Fury decides to clean up his mess by sending Wolverine to kill The Hulk.
Scream Factory have announced that the undead British comedy Cockneys Vs. Zombies will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 3.
Written by James Moran (Torchwood) and directed by Matthias Hoene (Beyond The Rave), Cockneys Vs. Zombies — which has a bunch of retirees joining with some damn kids to save their homes from both developers and the living-impaired — stars Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), and Alan Ford (Snatch).
Funko have announced that they will release the second series of Adventure Time POP! Vinyl figures on September 28.
According to the press release, “This line includes several characters suggested by FANS! Thanks fans.”
