South Park: The Complete Twenty-Third Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

One of the fun things cartoons do that live action shows don’t is mess with their intros. The Simpsons are famous for constantly changing the couch gag and what Bart writes on the blackboard, while Family Guy have occasionally had characters interrupt the chorus line in theirs. But while most of the episodes on the South Park: The Complete Twenty-Third Season Blu-ray and DVD sets have very different openings as well, the changes go far beyond the start of the show.

South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

One of the interesting things about South Park is how they’ve had running gags and call backs, but don’t go back to a subject once they’ve taken it on. But having been around for more than two decades, some of those subjects have evolved, or just not gone away. And so it is that in some of the episodes presented in South Park: The Complete Twenty-Second Season Blu-ray and DVD, they not only tackle new cultural issues but some old though still relevant ones as well.

South Park: The Complete Twenty-First Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

Having done two seasons in which one episode led to the next until the entire season was one long albeit loose story, the masterminds behind South Park decided to take a step back with their twenty-first season by having its ten episodes be stand-alone stories for the most part. Fittingly, it seems they’ve taken a similar approach to the extras on the South Park: The Complete Twenty-First Season Blu-ray and DVD.

These days, the only reason to buy a TV show on Blu-ray or DVD is if you’re old school (like me) or you like the extras. So I have some good news, and some bad news, for fans of South Park and physical media: While the South Park The Complete Twentieth Season Blu-ray and DVD do have some good special features, they could’ve been presented better.

South Park The Complete Nineteenth Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

After doing the show for nearly two decades, it’s not surprising that South Park‘s co-creators, writers, and voice actors Matt Stone and Trey Parker would do something different for their nineteenth season. But it’s also interesting that, in many ways, they’ve also done something different with the South Park The Complete Nineteenth Season Blu-ray and DVD.

South Park The Complete Eighteenth Season Blu-ray, DVD Review

Like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and other cartoons that have been on the air a long time, South Park may not be as good as it used to be, but it’s still funny and even occasionally has flashes of its old brilliance. What hasn’t changed, though, is how the South Park The Complete Eighteenth Season Blu-ray and DVD has the same shortcomings as The Complete First Season DVD and all the other seasonal sets in between.
